Alternative Dispute Resolution

Although litigation offers some redress for specific cases, we believe that not every dispute must go to or stay at court. Our firm focuses on a non-litigious means of resolving disputes and building lasting relationships. Our clients benefit from the finest advice on how best to manage potentially volatile situations. We also counsel entities and individuals that are already in the middle of disputes on how best to navigate their way out of these situations. While our partners have considerable experience in litigation and have handled ground breaking cases in various fields of the law, our firm’s approach is to apply these skills in a preventive rather than reactive manner.

Our Dispute Resolution team is leading the creation of the Kampala Center for International Arbitration and is driving the much-needed change in strategic direction in the industry.

We have also been involved in cutting edge, precedent setting litigation. A full list of our litigation matters is available on request. But some of our key cases involved:

  • Arguing the only successful Amicus Curiae Application yet to be granted by Uganda’s full bench of the Supreme Court,
  • We set the precedent on whether security deposits placed with the regulator were available for attachment,
  • We successfully represented a client in challenging an exclusive award of advertising rights by the Uganda National Authority,
  • We represented a civil society organization against BAT in defending the constitutionality of the Tobacco Control Act of Uganda;
  • We are litigating the constitutional rights of persons with hearing disabilities in pursuing their highest attainable right to health in Uganda.
